    Tax Credit

     

    You can receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit of up to $400 on your Arizona state income tax for making a charitable contribution to The Genesis Project.

     

    For tax year 2007 and later, taxpayers filing as single and unmarried head of household have a maximum credit amount of $200.  Taxpayers that are filing as married filing joint have a maximum credit of $400. Taxpayers filing married filing separate have a maximum credit of $200.

     

    How do I qualify?

    You must itemize charitable contributions on your tax return. You must establish a baseline year for charitable contributions (1996 or later). The donation to Helping the Working Poor that exceeds charitable contributions in your baseline year is your tax credit. For example, if you itemized $100 to charity in your baseline year, you must give $100 to charity and then up to $200 to Helping the Working Poor. The amount you give above $100 is your tax credit.

     

    How do I file for the credit?

    You or your accountant complete a simple form, which is included with materials provided by the State of Arizona to all state tax filers, and send it along with your state tax return.

To fully appreciate the reality of the Genesis Project we encourage you to stop by and visit. Please enjoy some photos that show a brief snapshot in a day at our facility.

The Genesis Project meets the needs of the young and old. Statistics have shown that the average age of the thousands of homeless in the Phoenix Metro area is 9 years old. These are real people who are not only struggling with finding a safe and healthy place to sleep, but simply a nutritious meal to sustain them one more day.

Many people fed at this facility every day and our ministry has been doing this for over five years. Everyone participates on a volunteer basis!

While genesis Project is operated as a coalition of churches, we are pleased to announce that Love Gospel Church of Apache Junction is now hosting us. We made a number of upgrades and are now combining our efforts to minister to the needs of the homeless both physically and spiritually.
